There has been a global increase in the number of attempts to gain access to customer’s personal banking information through fraudulent means.
Phishing in particular utilizes emails containing purported Bank web links to gain customer confidence and information.
Cyber actors may send emails with malicious attachments or links to fraudulent websites to trick customers into revealing sensitive information or donating to fraudulent COVID-19 charities or causes.
First Citizens will not send emails that request a customer to log on or verify personal banking information via a web link.
Customers are advised to be vigilant of scams related to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and take the following precautions:
- Avoid clicking on links in unsolicited emails and be wary of email attachments.
- Do not reveal personal or financial information in email, and do not respond to email solicitations for this information.
- Verify a charity’s authenticity before making donations via your Credit Card.
- Use trusted sources—such as legitimate government websites for up-to-date, fact-based information about COVID-19.
Verify the site is secure. First Citizens url is https://www.firstcitizenstt.com. The “S” signals that the site is secure and certified according to international standards – VeriSign.
Verify that the URL displayed when you move your cursor above the web link is the same as the secure First Citizens url.
Do not respond to the suspicious email and do not submit any personal information.
