First Citizens Reveals Nominees for the 2024 First Citizens Sports Awards

The highly anticipated 2024 First Citizens Sports Awards is carded for January 11, 2025 at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad, Port of Spain, promising a celebration of athletic excellence, resilience and the unyielding spirit of perseverance. Originally held in March, the event will now be hosted in January and broadcast live on SportsMax, the region’s number-one sports channel, in a showcase of the finest in sports.

Under the fitting theme “The Power of Perseverance,” this year’s event highlights the remarkable journeys of athletes who have overcome obstacles, shattered records, and inspired countless fans worldwide.

The 2024 First Citizens Sports Awards is more than an event – it’s a tribute to the incredible determination and passion of our athletes and all the support systems that go into representing our country,” said Dr Terry Ali, Chairperson of the First Citizens Sports Foundation. “The new date allows us to enhance the experience for everyone involved and give our athletes the recognition they deserve.”

Nominees Unveiled
The nominees for this year’s top honours include an extraordinary line-up of athletes, each with a unique story of perseverance and triumph. More than 80 nominees from more than 25 sporting disciplines will be vying for the coveted title of the First Citizens Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year 2024.

Event Highlights

The evening will feature thrilling performances, inspiring speeches, and the induction of sporting legends into the First Citizens Sports Hall of Fame.

  • Ms. Petal-Dawn Hinkson, niece of netball sporting icon Lystra Lewis presents the Lystra Lewis Awards to some of the members of the Trinidad & Tobago’s Men’s 3x3 Basketball Team who won bronze in the Pan American Games 2023, held in Santiago, Chile
