First Citizens Supports the Reopening of Schools
Primary schools were closed in March 2020 as a safety measure to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost two years later, thousands of children have been impacted by a high percentage of learning loss in addition to daily access to meals and a suitable environment to support learning.
First Citizens joined United Way of Trinidad and Tobago in their Building Bridges Program – National Time of Caring project to assist schools in their preparations for making learning spaces safe for children to return. This project targeted schools in high need areas like Santa Rosa Government and Belle Gardens Anglican Schools. Each school had its infrastructure amended to include more handwashing facilities, signage displayed around the compound to remind students of good practices to mitigate the spreading of germs, as well as each student, received a pack of three reusable facemasks.
